Great news for employers and future apprentices – Businesses who take on a new apprentice will be eligible for a 50% wage subsidy.

The Australian Government has announced a new program called ‘Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements’. It is designed to assist job seekers into Australian Apprenticeship jobs, and to help employers take on apprentices.

This new subsidy scheme will subsidise half the wages of apprentices as part of a COVID-19 economic recovery plan.
The $1.2 billion investment commences on Monday October 5th 2020, and will be available to employers who engage a new apprentice or trainee regardless of geographic location, occupation, industry, or size of the business.

Under the scheme, employers will be eligible for 50% of the wages for a new or recommencing apprentice or trainee for the period up to 30 September 2021, up to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter.

The new subsidy will be available for the first 100,000 apprentices and trainees who are registered.
Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements is not available for any apprentice receiving other wage subsidies, such as Supporting Apprentices and Trainees (SAT) or JobKeeper.
